Vercel · Core platform

Sale day brings the buyers and the site slows to a crawl. Serve each page from the nearest copy.

A sale goes live or a launch link goes round the WhatsApp groups, and every visitor hits the same server. Pages hang, photos load last, and some buyers give up. The CDN comes with every Vercel deployment. It keeps cached copies of your pages and images across 126 points of presence in 51 countries, and you refresh them when a price changes.

The problem

Where a busy day goes wrong today.

What Content Delivery (CDN) is

Content Delivery (CDN), in plain words.

Facts from Vercel’s own pages, checked on 16 October 2026. The sources are at the end of this page.

What it is
Vercel’s delivery network. Every deployment includes it automatically, with no separate account to run.
Size
126 points of presence in 51 countries. Vercel does not publish the city list, so we cannot confirm one in the Gulf.
Rules from the build
With a supported framework, such as Next.js, Nuxt, SvelteKit or Astro, the caching rules come out of the build.
Fresh after a change
Purge cached pages by tag, or refresh them in the background with ISR. Every CDN change gets its own preview link first.
Images
Image optimization serves photos as WebP and AVIF. External rewrites can cache a backend you do not host on Vercel.
Security included
HTTPS with automatic certificates, TLS 1.2 and 1.3, and always-on DDoS mitigation at no extra cost.

How it works

From a visitor’s tap to the page, mostly from cache.

Five steps. Most requests end at the nearest point of presence. Only a miss reaches your functions, and a price change clears just the pages it touches.

Five steps: the build sets caching rules, a visitor reaches the nearest point, the cache answers, a miss goes to functions, a tag purge refreshes.

The same steps are written out below.

Step by step

What happens at each step.

  1. Deploy

    The build sets the rules

Your framework’s build output defines routing and caching for that deployment.

  2. Arrive

A visitor reaches the nearest point

Firewall and DDoS checks run before anything else.

  3. Cache

Rules run, then the cache answers

Redirects and headers run first. A cached page or photo goes straight back.

  4. Miss

On a miss, a function answers

The request goes to functions in your chosen region, and the response can be cached.

  5. Refresh

Change a price, purge the tag

Purge by tag or revalidate with ISR. The next visitor sees the new page.

How it fits together

Where the CDN sits between buyers and your systems.

Buyers reach the CDN first. Cached pages and photos go straight back. Only a miss reaches your functions, which read from Salesforce or your database. The WAF and Observability sit on the same path.

Buyers reach the CDN, which answers from cache; a miss goes to functions that read Salesforce or a database, with the WAF in front.

Use cases · worked examples

One worked example in each industry.

How Content Delivery (CDN) fits into the work of the industries we serve, one step at a time.

  1. A sale night flow: pages tagged, sale email sent, pages served from cache, a price cut purges one tag.

    Example 1 · Retail, Dubai · Infographic

E-commerce manager at a Dubai fashion retailer

Today: The White Friday email goes out at 20:00. Last year the product pages took ages to load and checkout timed out for half an hour.

After: Product pages and photos come from the CDN cache. When the team cuts a price, the store purges that product’s tag and the new price shows on the next visit.

    Worked example, step by step

    1. 19:30Developer. Tags product pages by collection, so the sale collection can be purged on its own.
    2. 20:00Marketing. Sends the sale email and the WhatsApp broadcast.
    3. 20:01CDN. Serves sale pages and photos from cache. Only cart and checkout calls reach the functions.
    4. 20:40E-commerce manager. Drops the price on a best seller in the store admin.
    5. 20:40Store backend. Purges that product’s tag. The next shopper sees the new price.
    6. 21:30E-commerce manager. Checks CDN requests in Observability. Checkout kept working through the peak.

The sale email brings the crowd, the pages hold, and the new price is live a minute after the change.

    Retail and e-commerce
  2. A project page flow: light photos from the CDN, a unit booked in Salesforce, the page refreshes, buyers see it booked.

Example 2 · Real estate, Kochi · Infographic

Marketing lead at a Kochi real estate developer

Today: Each project page carries forty photos and a walkthrough. Buyers working in the Gulf open it on their phones and leave before the gallery loads.

After: Photos go out as WebP and AVIF from the CDN. Unit availability comes from Salesforce, and the page refreshes with ISR when a unit is booked.

    Worked example, step by step

    1. Mon 10:00Developer. Moves the project gallery to image optimization. Photos go out as WebP or AVIF.
    2. Mon 10:05Marketing lead. Opens the preview link on a phone on mobile data and scrolls the gallery.
    3. Mon 15:00Developer. Promotes it. Project pages are now cached on the CDN.
    4. Tue 11:20Sales. Marks unit B-1204 as booked in Salesforce.
    5. Tue 11:20Salesforce. Calls the website to revalidate that project page.
    6. Tue 11:21Buyer. Opens the page and sees B-1204 marked as booked.

The gallery loads on a phone, and the page stops offering a unit that is already sold.

    Real estate CRM
  3. A hotel apartment flow: room pages cached, live rates uncached, the booking engine fails, guests book on WhatsApp.

Example 3 · Hotel apartments, Abu Dhabi · Infographic

Revenue manager at an Abu Dhabi hotel apartment group

Today: The booking engine is a third-party service. When it is slow the whole site hangs, and when it fails guests see a blank error page.

After: An external rewrite puts the room pages behind the CDN cache. Live rates stay uncached. If the engine stops answering, the booking step shows the reservations WhatsApp number instead of a blank page.

    Worked example, step by step

    1. Sun 09:00Developer. Adds an external rewrite so room pages from the booking engine are cached.
    2. Sun 09:30Developer. Leaves live rates and availability uncached, so guests see today’s price.
    3. Sun 10:00Developer. Adds a fallback to the booking step: if the engine does not answer, it shows the reservations WhatsApp link.
    4. Thu 22:15Booking engine. Goes down for maintenance.
    5. Thu 22:16Guests. Still see the cached room pages. The booking step shows the WhatsApp link.
    6. Thu 22:30Reservations. Takes the bookings on WhatsApp and logs them in Salesforce.

The booking engine went down for the evening, and guests still had a way to book.

Is it for you

When Content Delivery (CDN) fits, and when it doesn’t.

Good fit

Not for you yet

Traffic comes in bursts: sales, launches, campaigns
A contract requires a server in Dubai or Riyadh: Vercel does not publish its PoP cities
Your pages carry a lot of photos
Every page is personal to the visitor and cannot be cached
Prices or stock change and must show quickly
You need an availability guarantee on the cheapest tier: Flex CDN has none
Your site runs on a supported framework, or can move to one
The site is not on Vercel and is not moving

What Mindcat does

We build it, then we run it.

The assessment is free: a short read of the org and a written note. If you go ahead, the first build week is a fixed AED/SAR 14,900 (about USD 4,050), credited in full when you sign the build within 60 days. After go-live, we keep it patched, watched and changing every month.

FAQ

What teams ask about Content Delivery (CDN).

Is there a CDN server in Dubai or Riyadh?
Vercel says it runs 126 points of presence in 51 countries but does not publish the city list. We cannot confirm one in the UAE or Saudi Arabia, so we do not promise it. Functions run in one of 19 compute regions, none in the Middle East. Mumbai is the closest.
Does the CDN cost extra?
It is part of every deployment. As of 16 October 2026, Hobby includes 1M CDN requests and 100 GB of fast data transfer a month, but Hobby is for non-commercial use only. On Pro, both are included in Flat Rate CDN, where Vercel says short-term spikes do not change the bill, subject to fair use.
How fast does a price change show?
As fast as the purge runs. We tag pages so a change in your store or Salesforce purges the right ones, or refreshes them with ISR. Cart and checkout are not cached at all.
Does it protect us from attacks?
Vercel includes unmetered, always-on DDoS mitigation on every deployment at no extra cost. For rules on your forms and checkout, add the WAF.
What is Flex CDN?
A best-effort tier. Vercel states it comes with no latency or availability guarantees, so we only suggest it where that is acceptable to you.
