What the Tourism Dirham fee adds to a Dubai stay.

The Tourism Dirham fee in Dubai is AED 7 to AED 20 per room per night, set by the property's classification, for up to 30 nights in a row. Each bedroom of a larger apartment counts as a room. Pick the category, nights and rooms below to see the fee for the stay.

The fee stops after 30 consecutive nights.
A hotel room or a studio counts as 1. Each bedroom of a larger apartment counts as a room.
Tourism Dirham for this stay

AED 45

  • AED 15 a room a night × 1 room = AED 15 a night.
  • Charged for 3 nights.

Dubai only. The guest pays it on top of the room rate; the property collects it and pays it to Dubai's tourism authority by the 15th of the next month. A check-out by the main guest ends the count: a new stay starts again at night 1. When the main guest leaves and a family member stays on, Dubai's rules don't treat it as a new guest, so ask the property how it counts those nights.

How the fee is counted

  • Fee = the category rate × rooms × nights, with nights capped at 30 in a row.
  • Rooms means bedrooms. A two-bedroom deluxe apartment for 45 nights pays AED 30 a night for 30 nights: AED 900.
  • A night starts at check-in and ends at the property's night-end time or at check-out, whichever comes first.
  • If the property's classification changes during a stay, each night is charged at that night's category.
  • The fee is per room, not per guest: guests sharing a room with the main guest add nothing.

For the property: getting it on every bill

For a hotel apartment building, the hard part is not the rate. It is putting the fee on every bill per bedroom, stopping it at night 31 on long stays, and adding up room nights for the monthly return. Mindcat Stays adds the Tourism Dirham to each booking as its own line at your category rate; the 30-night limit on long stays is adjusted by the desk today.

Questions

Who pays the Tourism Dirham?
The main guest of each room pays it, whoever made or paid for the booking. The property collects it, shows it on the bill as a fee, not a tax, and pays it to Dubai's tourism authority before the 16th of the next month. Staff staying for a night shift at their own property, and the property's owner, do not pay it.
Does a two-bedroom apartment pay once or twice?
Twice. Dubai's 2020 rules say that where one unit has more than one bedroom, the fee applies to each room per night. A studio or a one-bedroom pays once.
What happens after 30 nights?
The fee stops. It is charged for at most 30 consecutive nights of the same main guest. Moving to another room in the same property does not restart the count; checking out does, and a new stay starts again at night 1. If the main guest leaves and someone else stays in the room, that person is charged as a new guest, unless they are family of the main guest.
Does this work for Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah or Sharjah?
No. Each emirate sets its own fees, and we only publish rates we can read in official legislation. Ask the property, or check that emirate's tourism authority.
