If your workshop's phone rings all day for service slots and your bays still double-book, this is for you. The question is whether you need a booking tool or a full garage system, and last week's ten jobs decide it. This is not for you if your losses sit in job cards, parts and invoices: you need a garage system, not a diary.
Where does your workshop lose the day?
Either before the car arrives, or after. That is the whole decision.
Before: the phone, WhatsApp messages asking for a slot, two customers promised the same bay, an advisor with no free hour on Thursday. After: the job card typed twice, the part nobody ordered, the customer approving a quote by voice note, the invoice written by hand.
Bookafy, a scheduling vendor, puts the split in one sentence: "Scheduling software for an auto shop is really two different jobs wearing one name." Its guide says buying the wrong one is how a shop "either overpays for a full management system it isn't ready to run or bolts a generic booking link onto work that needed the repair order behind it." Bookafy is a US vendor and sells the diary side, so read it as the split, not as advice for Al Quoz. It is rarely stated in the UAE results for "garage management software", which are vendor pages that each sell one all-in-one system.

What is the ten-jobs test?
Take last week's ten jobs. For each one, write down where the most time was lost: before the car arrived, or after it was in the bay.

The test is ours, not a standard. It needs a pen, last week's job list and ten minutes, nothing from us. If you cannot say where the time went for most of the ten, write it down for a week before you buy anything.
What do UAE garage systems cost, and what is in them?
Less than you might expect, because they sell the job card and often bundle booking. These are the vendors' own list prices, read on 28 October 2026:
Our shared booking minimum is AED/SAR 399 a month. Several of these systems start below it. That is the honest receipt for the rule above: if your losses sit after the car arrives, the cheaper and better answer is one of these, and we tell you so.
Check two things on any system before you sign: whether online booking is in the plan you would actually buy, and who sets up your services, hours and invoice details. GarageBuddy's page says its Starter is for a two-bay workshop getting off paper, so a bigger floor should read the plan table, not the headline price.
What does a booking tool hold, and what does it not?
Mindcat Bookings is a diary. A staff calendar is one person or resource customers book: a service advisor or a bay. Drivers pick an advisor and a 60-minute slot online, and the confirmation email carries the workshop's location. Receptionists and managers who run the diary are free, and customers never count. There are no per-booking fees.
It does not hold a job card, parts, a quote or an invoice. It takes no deposits or online payment today. It sends confirmations, not reminders: we add a reminder email the day before during setup, and from 6 calendars WhatsApp or SMS through your own provider, with message fees billed at cost. It does not promise fewer no-shows; what we promise in writing is the go-live date once your part arrives, the system kept running, and your leaving with your data.
The diary side has one figure worth knowing. Mitchell 1 and SureCritic reported on 19 October 2026 that 43.5 percent of online bookings arrive while shops are closed, and half of those customers are new to the shop. That is US data from shops using a Google scheduling button, so read it as a reason to let customers book at night, not as a forecast for your workshop.
The invoice belongs to the garage system. On 19 October 2026 the UAE Ministry of Finance issued Ministerial Decision No. 197 of 2026, amending its electronic invoicing regulations. A booking tool issues no invoice, so ask the garage system's vendor what it does about e-invoicing before you buy it.

What does a booking tool cost for a six-bay workshop?
The per-calendar rate comes with a monthly minimum, because one calendar is not for sale at the rate. Six bays on the shared plan:
Annual prepay takes 15 percent off. Prices exclude 5 percent UAE VAT and 15 percent Saudi VAT. Your own copy on servers we host in the UAE or Saudi Arabia doubles the calendar rate, with a minimum of AED/SAR 4,099 a month.
What happens in the first working session?
You send last week's ten jobs with the side marked. We tell you in writing which product fits. If most marks fall after the car arrives, we say buy a garage system, and name what to check in it. If they fall before, we send the setup plan, the go-live date and the monthly price. If it is both, we say so and describe a diary in front of a job-card system.
If your phone rings all day for service slots, get the written setup plan. Tell us how many advisors and bays take bookings, how customers book today and where the day goes wrong. See what the diary looks like on the Bookings page.
